Easy Riders Raging Podcast

Now in our fourth series, we're back and this time around we're talking 1980s films of all shapes and sizes. But not just that, we've got eps on 80s TV, and music videos and more! As ever our episodes include trademark features such as Recastarama (where we recast the film using current actors) and Who Am I (where we work out who we would be in the film). Lots of fun to be had. [Our 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s series are also available]

From Star Wars to Saturday Night Fever, to The Godfather and Grease, Annie Hall and Alien, the 1970s was THE decade for great movies. Here at Easy Riders Raging Podcast we're looking back at all the classics of the decade, discussing the films of Scorsese, Friedkin, Coppola, Altman, De Palma and many many more. Aside from our discussions, each episode includes some of our trademark features such as Recastarama (where we recast the film using current actors) and Who Am I (where we work out who we would be in the film). Lots of fun to be had. [Our 1960s series is also available]

In this mini-episode, I take a look at the smash hit of 1970- 'Love Story'. In the process I try to de-construct the film as well as trying to explain life for the super rich and re-imagining this film through the lens of Saved By the Bell.

In this episode Kieran and I DO feel lucky, as we do a first-time watch of the Don Siegel film 'Dirty Harry' which sees Clint Eastwood's iconic maverick cop 'Dirty' Harry Callaghan take on the Zodiac-inspired serial killer Scorpio.

We also find time to touch on the work of Shane Black, to talk about David Fincher's film 'Zodiac' and discuss the Kiefer Sutherland TV show 24.

Mar 29, 2019

In this episode I discuss the classic Roman Polanski noir film 'Chinatown' with Empire Magazine writer Nick de Semlyen, who is also the author of forthcoming book 'Wild and Crazy Guys', an Easy Rider Raging Bulls-esque book about 80's American comedians such as Steve Martin, Martin Short and Eddie Murphy.

Returning to Middle Earth after our epic coverage of the Jackson trilogy on my sister podcast, the SpielbergPod (still available), Paul, Kieran and I discuss Ralph Bakshi's 'The Lord of the Rings', which is an animated take on 'The Fellowship of The Ring' and 'The Two Towers'.

Expect comparisons to Tolkien's books as well as to the Peter Jackson films. Also, top bants!

Oh no, not me, I never lost control. You're face to face, with the man with the golden gun.

This week, as part of our ongoing conversation about the James Bond films, Jev and I discuss 'The Man With the Golden Gun', in which Roger Moore takes on the three-nippled Scaramanga, played by Christopher Lee.

Join us for a fun conversation. A mixture of critique and praise for this movie, which I think most would agree, is not 007's finest hour.

Mar 8, 2019

This week it's another return to the archives from my original podcast, the SpielbergPod, with a discussion on his WW2 comedy '1941'.

Mar 2, 2019

Recorded on a wet and boozy winter evening, Paul and I celebrate reaching episode 75 of our 1970s series with a discussion an all-time classic- Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather: Part II.

And remember, if you want to support the show AND get exclusive episodes of the podcast (including two Godfather specials) go to www.patreon.com/ERRP.

Feb 27, 2019

In this short solo episode, I conclude our 1970s Mel Brooks coverage by talking about 'Silent Movie' and 'High Anxiety' (one of which I liked, the other, not so much).

Expect talk about Woody Allen, Alfred Hitchcock and more.

Feb 22, 2019

To infinity and beyond! Join Jake and I as we journey from Venice, to Rio to space with our viewing of one of the most ridiculous James Bond films- 'Moonraker'.

Feb 17, 2019

This week it's true-crime time, as we discuss Sidney Lumet's 'Dog Day Afternoon', the New York set bank-heist film starring Al Pachino and John Cazale.

We also find time to discuss a tonne of other things from a classic Only Fools and Horses episode, misunderstanding Michael Collins, casting The Terminator, comparing modern-day Pachino to DeNiro and much more.

Feb 13, 2019

Continuing my coverage of the films of Woody Allen, in this episode I talk about 'Sleeper' (set in the future) and 'Love and Death' (set in the past). I also talk about 'Demolition Man' more than I thought I would...

Feb 9, 2019

Expect talk of 'Mary Poppins Returns', Videoplus, the 'Dr Strangelove' pie-fight, The Bill and much, much more as Jake and I discuss Alan Parker's gangster musical 'Bugsy Malone'.

Jan 25, 2019

In this episode- part of a crossover with the fantastic Star Trek podcast Spocklight- we discuss Paul Schrader's directorial debut, 'Blue Collar'.

Expect conversation about Schrader's career, kicking in walls, Richard Pryor's stunning performance in this film, The Wire, real-life tales from the set of this film and much more.

Also, be sure to download my guest-spot on the most recent episode of Spocklight where we talk about the 1970s remake of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. Available now from all good pod-catchers!

Jan 18, 2019

Following on from our 'Nuts in May' episode, this week Jev and I discuss Mike Leigh's follow-up, 'Abigail's Party'.

Jan 16, 2019

In this brief episode I look at three Woody Allen films - Bananas, Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex and Play It Again Sam- in terms of how much they held up on a 2019 rewatch. So in what ways are they dated, are they still funny and how do the allegations made against Allen affect a viewing of these films.

Jan 11, 2019

In this episode Jake and I return to the disaster genre with an episode on 'The Towering Inferno', the classic Steve McQueen and Paul Newman vs a big fire film. And thankfully our conversation is shorter than the film.

Jan 5, 2019

Continuing our look at the Seven Up documentary series, Kieran and I discuss '21 Up'.

Jan 2, 2019

In this short, solo midweek episode I discuss (generally without spoilers) the films 'Marathon Man' (by John Schlesinger) and 'The Night Porter' (by Liliana Cavani).
